Woman holding baby as he makes blowing gesture with lips. Social Security benefits

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a cash assistance program for people who are 65 or older and for people of any age who have a disability and have little income.

SSI may provide you monthly cash payments that vary in amount depending on your income and personal situation. The more income you have, the lower your SSI payment will be. You may also be eligible for Medicaid, food stamps, and some burial expenses.

To apply for SSI, you should call Social Security’s toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 or call or go to your local Social Security office.
