Volunteer

The volunteers in our Parents Reaching Out network represent a broad spectrum of experiences, interests and cultural backgrounds. We value the contributions that each person contributes to communities across our state. Our volunteers include parents, grandparents, professionals and community members who give their time to assist with family support activities, serve on our board of directors and advisory committees, help with special events and fundraising and much more.

The extraordinary commitment of our volunteers coupled with the work of our dedicated staff makes it possible to carry out the mission of our organization. Our volunteers make a difference in communities. Please read more about the opportunities that are available and contact Parents Reaching Out to find out how you can join our growing network of volunteers.

Family Leadership Action Network

Our Family Leadership Action Network (FLAN) is an initiative designed to promote parent involvement and build family leadership to create an organized family voice through active participation in shaping the system that impacts their lives and their children's future. This proactive network of families promotes the family perspective and their contributions in influencing policies and the programs that affect them.

FLAN celebrates the diversity that is created from each family's strengths and knowledge while working for positive, purposeful policy changes that eliminate stereotyping and assumptions. Our Family Leadership Action Network pools the resources of volunteer groups within our organization to connect, support and build capacity among all families in our state.

FLAN opens doors to new opportunities as we come together to share ideas, ponder possibilities and take action to bring positive changes for our children and young adults.

We are single drops of rain falling silently into the dust, offering scant promise of moisture to the thirsty land. But together, we can nourish the earth and revive its hopes and dreams. Together, we are a THUNDERSTORM!

Parents Reaching Out connects one family with another through a variety of groups designed to meet their interests and needs. Our Family Leadership Action Network includes:

  • DreamWeavers-Parent to Parent
  • Family Faculty (FAF)-Family Involvement for Systems Change
  • NM F2FHIC Health Information Parent Specialists (HIPS)-Navigating the Health Care System
  • NM PIRC Parents As Leaders (PALS)-Parenting and Quality Schools
  • NM PTI Adobe Corp-Special Education

Visit FAMILY LEADERSHIP or any of the links above to learn how you can make a positive difference in your community. You can also connect to our Family Leadership Action Network by e-mail: FLAN@parentsreachingout.org.

Boards and Advisory Committees

Our volunteer opportunities also extend to members of the education, heath and business communities as we continue to build partnerships with the systems that serve families and children. Every program that is a part of Parents Reaching Out has an Advisory Committee that includes parents, professionals, service providers and policy makers that represent the focus area of the project (Early Intervention, Education, Special Education, Health Care and Higher Education). Our Board of Directors represents families and a cross section of community representatives and business leaders. Contact Boards&Advisories@parentsreachingout.org, to learn more about these volunteer opportunities.

Fundraising

This year’s Annual Fundraiser is a celebration of our 25th Anniversary as your one stop resource for stronger families in New Mexico. The event will be held at Gardunos at the Balloon Fiesta Park on Saturday, June 28, 2008 and will include a benefit dinner, dance and silent auction. All proceeds from our Annual Fundraiser will go toward helping Parents Reaching Out continue to fulfill its mission.

Volunteers interested in assisting with this event have opportunities for committee work such as: chairing the silent auction, securing auction items, invitation mailing, preparing auction baskets, decorating and volunteering the night of the event. Contact Fundraising@parentsreachingout.org to learn more about these volunteer opportunities.
