NCBDDD Family Liaisons Needed for Cohort 2017

Family Voices is recruiting Family Leaders to serve as Family Liaisons on the National level to the Friends to NCBDDD.  The Friends of NCBDDD is a coalition of government and private sector participants who work together to enhance the mission and activities of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) in identifying the causes of birth defects and developmental disabilities; helping children to develop and reach their full potential; and promoting health and well-being among people of all ages with disabilities, including blood disorders. NCBDDD’s work is described by the Center’s four thematic areas; Saving babies through birth defects prevention and research, Helping children live to the fullest by understanding developmental disabilities, Protecting people and preventing complications of blood disorders and Improving health of people with disabilitiesFamily Liaisons are selected to participate in each thematic area and advise the Friends on strategies that enhance communication between families and key target audiences of the Friends including policy makers, non-government organizations, and service providers. https://friendsofncbddd.org/family-representative-liaisons-connections-across-thematic-areas/

The Family Liaisons receive a $300.00 Honorarium per year for the following activities; to attend quarterly all-staff Friends calls; attend quarterly check-in calls; submit articles to the Friends Newsletters and contribute to and solicit family stories to the CDC/NCBDDD (1 hour month – 9 month project).  In return for their service,  Family Liaisons are provided access to NCBDDD/CDC information, leadership, FV support and training, webinars and an endless array of opportunities for networking.  Family Liaisons are also invited to attend the yearly in-person Friends of NCBDDD meeting usually held in conjunction with the AUCD or AMCHP conference.

Please indicate in your application (attached above) which of the 4 thematic areas you are interested in and why.  Also include a description of any experience with the thematic area, linkage to any CDC programs, what you think you can contribute and a few sentences about yourself and your family.  Appointments are for one year but may be extended as funding permits.
