Parents Reaching Out has been serving families in New Mexico for 25 years. The majority of our funding comes from the Federal Government, but those grants do not cover our entire budget. We provide services at no cost to the families that receive them, but to continue this work we need donations from supporters like you. Please help us sustain our work in the community by giving a donation.

Parents Reaching Out is registered with the Internal Revenue service as a 501(c) 3 organization, meaning that your donation is tax-deductible. Many companies match employee donations made to nonprofit organizations like Parents Reaching Out. Check with your employer to see if they will match your contribution!

We are dedicated to helping families:

Negotiate complex systems, like health care and education.
Advocate for their child in specific challenging situations.
Build their capacity to help themselves and their communities by providing trainings and workshops.
Take an active role in their children's schools.

We are also committed to helping professionals by:

Providing support and guidance for schools and school districts who want their students to realize the many benefits of family involvement.
Educating policy makers and administrators about the importance of family empowerment, and providing appropriate and comprehensive services for families that support the needs of all New Mexico's children and youth.

For many years, Parents Reaching Out has received the majority of its funding through government grants. However, the budget outlook for our state and federal governments is rapidly changing. We can no longer count on receiving grants at the same levels we did, and we don't anticipate increases to offset inflation. So, we are appealing to you - our strongest supporters.

How will my donation be used?

Parents Reaching Out offers trainings and workshops that are provided for families at no cost. Your donation will ensure that we can continue this service to the community.

Here are some examples.

$25 - will help purchase materials for our workshops.
$50 - will support our Parent to Parent program, which matches families who have similar experiences and needs, enabling them to get both information and support.
$150 - allows us to offer materials, outreach, education, and peer mentoring to new parents with a child in the University of New Mexico Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
$300 - provides a medical student with the opportunity to participate in the Families as Faculty program and to experience how working in partnership with families will improve systems, services, and outcomes for children with disabilities.

Parents Reaching Out has programs that can help every family improve their child's educational and/or health care services. Our staff understands your concerns because we have direct experience with the systems that you are navigating. How can I donate?

The easiest way to make a donation is right here, on our website. Or, if you would prefer, we can mail you our donation card to fill out with a check or credit card. All of our donations are done in a secure manner; we do not share any information with third-party groups, including other non-profit organizations.

Gifts that Keep on Giving

You may make your tax deductible donation in honor of a special occasion, in memory of a friend or family member or simply to show your support for Parents Reaching Out. We recommend that donors consult with their own tax or legal advisors prior to making a planned gift. To learn more about the gift of giving, contact our Director of Operations.

In addition, Parents Reaching Out hosts an Annual Family Leadership Action Network Conference. Each year, PRO collaborates with several organizations to teach families new skills and time to connect with one another. PRO heavily subsidizes the cost of attendance, which includes conference fees, hotel rooms, food, and workshop materials.

Families who wish to attend pay a small fee to cover the rest of cost. Your donation can sponsor a family to attend this conference. $300 will cover the cost for one family to attend this conference and gain valuable tools to advocate for their children.
